Christmas Is Coming & It’s Time To Celebrate!

The Bellagio Casino Christmas Display in Vegas - December 2009

I love going to the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas whenever we visit.  They always have a seasonal or holiday display of some kind inside the lobby and I make sure I drag R. Darling there whenever I get the chance.  Last time we were there it was autumn and there were gorgeous displays of apples and pumpkins to put us in the harvest mood.  Imagine my excitement this time to realize that we would be there in time for the Christmas display!  Oh how I love Christmas and love all the decorations and good feelings involved.  It was quite the kick-off to our holidays to be able to stroll through the conservatory and catch a glimpse of polar bears made entirely of white carnations, reindeer made of pecans, and the biggest Christmas tree I’ve ever seen in my life (only because I’ve never been to Rockefeller!).  I just wanted to share with all of you who couldn’t be there and hope that your holidays are off to a great start too!

Besides Christmas, there’s something else I’m celebrating here at the bloggy.  This is my 300th post!  And I also missed commemorating my 3rd Bloggyversary in October.  I guess it’s all about the 3’s today :)  Because I have so much to celebrate and because it’s the season of giving, I’m going to have a little contest.  If you have a blog, leave a comment telling me how long you’ve been blogging, what you love most about it, and what you do to recuperate if you have a little bloggy slump (I could use the advice!).  If you’re not a blogger, tell me what you like about reading blogs and what keeps you coming back to the ones you like best.  Comment with your answer(s) by Midnight (PST) Friday night, December 18, 2009 and you will be entered to win a fabulous prize!  The prize?  I knew you’d ask, since it’s really all about the prize, isn’t it? :)  Ravelry has just announced a new pattern gifting feature and I can’t wait to try it out.  If you’re my winner, I will purchase a pattern of your choosing (up to $7) and gift it to you on Ravelry.  I’ll announce the winner on Saturday, December 19, 2009. Hooray for gifting!

I’m so looking forward to all your answers and thank you so very much for all your support over the last 3 years and 300 posts!  It really does mean so much to me and I’m so very grateful for each and every one of you.  Happy Holidays!

  1. I love traveling during Christmas time just for this reason…everything is so beautifully decorated! My first time to Paris was over Thanksgiving weekend…and all the Christmas decorations were up! Loved it!

I’ve been blogging since…December of 2004! A long time! What I love most about blogging is some of the fantastic people I’ve met, both IRL and online (and you’re one of them!) To recuperate from a bloggy slump: photography, of course! I see a picture I love…and build a little post around it.

    Glad you’re back!

  2. Happy belated blog birthday! :) Mine will be 4 years old in Jan!!! Can’t believe how time flies! I love blogging because I get to document all the things that happened and I actually have fun reading my prior posts and discover things that I had forgotten in my busy life. And as Janet said, I love meeting all the people in the blog world, real life or not. To get out of the blog slump, I try to cook something that I love and then I’ll have to share it with my blog peeps!!! :)

  3. I just missed celebrating my own 2 year blogiversary (I went to see when I started my blog and realized it was 2 years ago on Dec. 1…oops! lol). I love meeting new people who share the same passions that I do. I especially love getting comments and email from them! I’ve made a whole new set of friends through my blog. I think that slumps are natural parts of running a blog. This fall I took a self imposed month long sabbatical. I think it’s worse to try and force your way out of a slump than to just let it run its course.

I love those pictures from Vegas, and, of course, I love reading your blog! :)

  4. It’s pretty sweet that you could catch some of the season’s magic during your little getaway! Thank you for sharing the pictures! Those reindeers made of pecans? Wow, just wow.

Happy blogiversary! I’m a newbie blogger, as I only got started last April, I think, and I haven’t posted all that much since then. What I love about it is that it gives me a space to share my thoughts and stories, and to be able to invite people over instead of always being the one who’s visiting. As for getting out of a blog slump, well, seeing how infrequently I post you could say *I* need the advice! Actually, I always have a lot on my mind that I’d like to share, but I simply need to take the time to sit down and write. I have yet to make blogging a regular activity in my schedule, and it shows (it doesn’t help that it takes me several hours to write a post: I’m writing in my second language, and… brevity isn’t my middle name!). I hope to eventually get better at it.

  5. Ok more threes to add!!! I’ve been blogging for 3.5 years. I really enjoy having an outlet where I can *talk* to others that enjoy the same thing I do. Plus it allows me to try out different things like Project Spectrum and ABC along. What keeps me going? Memes to fill in blank spaces, projects like the above. Plus cats and kids are great fillers!

    Great contest!

  6. Awesome decorations! I’m glad you both got back in one piece.

I don’t know how long I’ve been blogging. I started this blog in 06, but I had another one before that for about a year or two. So I guess somewhere between four and five years. As for getting out of a slump I peruse Ravelry and usually gain some inspiration from all the awesomeness. Or I go through my millions of patterns looking for the one thing that will get me out of my slump! Maybe you just need a break and can start focusing on some other things?

  7. Happy 300th post! From my own site, I see that I did my first post in Dec 07, so I guess that is 2 years. I’m not one of those compelled to write something at least once a day or week, or whatever. I think I average only 3 posts a month, so it’s hard to get in a slump when I don’t do it that often!

BTW — I LOVE the Bellagio. Along with the conservatory (where the floral display is), I love staring at the stuff in the chocolate shop at the back, where that chocolate fountain is on display. Hey, it’s Vegas, baby!

  8. I’ve been blogging since 2006, shortly before my youngest was born. I blog because no one gets my knitting obsession like other knitters. I am seriously crushing on the French Press Slippers but just haven’t justified the pattern purchase yet.

  9. Happy belated Bloganniversary and 300th post! I’m so glad you’re back… and just read that the knitting has got you back too (because the knitting controls us… almost)!

I’ve been blogging since… January 2009, but I had a blog before and had deleted it… Like you, I took a long enough break that I decided to delete the blog at some point… But then, a friend asked me to teach her how to knit and while I was looking for a simple scarf pattern for her, my mind got set on the Noro Striped Scarf and brought me back to knitting, for good, this time. But I’m knitting with moderation ever since ;-)

Blog reading is a big part of my blog activities. There is such a great knitting community out there. I even made lots of new friends (like you of course!) through this media…

Well, I could talk for hours! This is a great idea you had for your contest! I look forward to see what the winner will choose!

    Happy Holidays!
